The Westfort Maroons U15AA earned a narrow 2 to 1 win over the Thunder Bay Beavers U15AA on December 16 at Delaney Arena, pulling ahead in a tightly contested game built on structure and patience. The opening period ended scoreless as both teams limited quality chances and leaned on disciplined defensive play.

Thunder Bay Beavers struck first in the second period. Parker Bunn opened the scoring at 9:28, finishing a play created by Max McGinnis to give the Beavers an early edge. The goal sparked momentum for Thunder Bay, who pressed for more but ran into a composed Westfort response.

Westfort answered later in the frame. Rylan Kine-Hymers tied the game at 14:32, converting a setup from Jonathan Melnyk to shift momentum back to the Maroons. The equalizer set the tone heading into the third, with both benches tightening rotations and focusing on clean exits.

The deciding goal came in the third period when Jonathan Melnyk scored the winner to lift Westfort ahead for good. Carter Wemigwans and Maroons’ defense held firm through the closing minutes, turning away late pressure to secure the one goal victory.
