Through Fog, Snow and Rain, Ontario’s Best Chase Glory in Duntroon

The 2026 Ontario Winter Games Biathlon event in Duntroon, hosted by the Highlands Trailblazers, brought three days of focused competition under fog, wet snow, and steady rain. This gallery features moments from the official training day and the Pursuit race. Training day showed athletes refining zero, testing ski speed in soft tracks, and rehearsing controlled efforts into the range. Coaches tracked splits and reinforced process, while officials and volunteers managed a busy range in low visibility.

The Pursuit delivered head to head racing shaped by Sprint results. Start gaps reflected finish placement from the 4.5 kilometre Sprint, turning seconds into direct pressure on course. Athletes chased deficits, protected position, and managed four shooting bouts in difficult weather. In fog and mixed precipitation, sight picture and composure mattered. A single miss shifted momentum, while clean stages created opportunity on saturated trails.

This event also marked the first Ontario Winter Games biathlon to feature both 0.22 calibre and EcoAim categories for U15 and U17 athletes. The range reflected the full athlete pathway, from electronic systems to small bore rifles, all competing within the same Games structure. These images capture preparation, pressure, and persistence, documenting athletes who embraced tough conditions and competed with purpose on a provincial stage.
