The Mass Start closed the second race day of the Biathlon Canada World Junior and Youth Trials at Whistler Olympic Park. Athletes left the start lane together and faced four shooting stages in the P P S S order. Each miss required a penalty loop. Ski depth, range rhythm, and lap management decided positions in the final kilometres.
Women and Junior Women produced a tight finish. Sage Taylor won in 31:31.0 with Aliah Turner at 31:31.3 and Josie Clifford at 32:01.3. Youth Women saw strong pace from the opening lap. Mia Rodger won in 25:49.8 ahead of Ava Heie in 26:11.6 and Moira Glassford in 26:39.6.
Senior and Junior Men pushed a fast tempo over five laps. Gavin Johnston won in 33:25.7 with Ryan Elden in 33:46.7 and Lucas Smith in 33:59.1. Youth Men packed tight through the first three laps before the field split on the final standing. Taje Hansen won in 28:45.0 with Gavin Burke in 28:57.8 and Benjamin Jones in 29:13.1.
The Mass Start delivered decisive statistics for selection purposes. Athletes now hold comparative time gaps, hit totals, and penalty volumes from both sprint and mass start formats.
